Primary Energy price volatility stalls industrials deals, especially for companies newly in the market
Mark Johnson, Head of Industrials Investment Banking, recently discussed how energy price volatility is impacting industrials M&A with PE Hub.
“What’s happening now are new forces in play,” Portage Point’s Johnson said about macro geopolitical factors happening in real time. “Trying to anticipate what’s going to happen six, 12 or 24 months down the road is difficult. Given this market turmoil and disruptive secular trends, investors must take a different approach to evaluating and pricing risk, which impacts the type of due diligence required, valuation and structure, the time to close a deal, as well as deal certainty,” Johnson added.
