Matthew (Matt) Friedman is a Senior Director at Portage Point Partners in the Dallas, Texas office. As a member of the Transaction Advisory Services Practice, Matt specializes in US federal tax matters relating to domestic and cross-border transactions.

Matt has more than 12 years of experience assisting financial and strategic clients with tax due diligence (buy-side and sell-side), reorganizations, mergers, spin-offs, entity rationalization, debt refinancing, tax modeling, tax attribute analysis, transaction cost analysis and document review. He has experience across the transaction lifecycle, from planning and preliminary negotiations through closing and post-closing integration.

Matt has participated in over 500 transactions with values ranging from $20 million to over $20 billion. He has assisted C corporations, S corporations, partnerships, disregarded entities, high net worth individuals, real estate investment trusts and sovereign wealth funds. Matt has worked with clients in various industries, including hospitality, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, aviation and aerospace, defense and government contracting, entertainment, professional services, technology, media and telecom, business and industrial services and consumer products.

Prior to joining Portage Point, Matt was a Senior Director in the Global Transaction Tax practice at Alvarez & Marsal (A&M) in the Washington, DC office. At A&M, Matt’s practice concentrated in providing buy-side tax due diligence, structuring, modelling and transaction cost services to middle market private equity firms. Previously, Matt spent 10 years with EY in their International Tax and Transaction Services practice in the New York and Washington, DC offices. At EY, Matt covered a wide range of complex tax engagements for large financial and Fortune 500 clients.

Matt earned a Bachelor of Science in Finance and Accounting from New York University and a Juris Doctorate and LLM in Tax from Villanova University. He is a licensed CPA in New York and a licensed attorney in New York and Pennsylvania.
