Vice President
John Swei is a Vice President at Portage Point Partners in the Dallas office where he advises CFOs, controllers and private equity sponsors on public company readiness, financial transformation and complex technical accounting issues. With deep experience across initial public offerings (IPOs), de-special-purpose acquisition company (SPAC) mergers and complex transaction reporting, John is a trusted partner in managing capital markets transactions and sponsor-led reporting with technical depth and execution agility.
Prior to Portage Point, John was a lead Associate in the Transaction Advisory Services group at Houlihan Lokey, where he led execution and oversight of public listings and financial reporting engagements for companies in sectors such as aerospace, clean energy and financial services. In addition to his capital markets work, John advised a wide range of public companies and private equity-backed businesses on purchase accounting, stock-based compensation, revenue recognition and US generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) financial statement preparation. He co-developed a proprietary Accounting for Business Combinations (ASC 805) automation toolkit that standardized purchase accounting models and streamlined journal entry workflows, accelerating delivery, improving accuracy and enabling repeatable outcomes across recurring mergers and acquisitions (M&A) engagements. He also enhanced practice-wide delivery standards through methodology development and team enablement.
John began his career in the audit practice at BDO, where he led audits for public and private companies with more than $3.7 billion in assets. During this time, John developed deep expertise in US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) reporting, Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) compliance and analytics-driven assurance work.
John holds a Master of Science in Accounting and dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Accounting and Finance (Magna Cum Laude) from the University of Texas at Dallas. John is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in the state of Texas and holds FINRA Series 63 and 79 licenses.
