Accelerated Value Creation and Multinational Expansion Readiness for PE-Backed Professional Services Firm
Following a growth investment led by New Mountain Capital, Grant Thornton engaged Portage Point to evolve its partnership model into a scalable platform and execute a cross-border M&A program
SITUATION OVERVIEW
100-year-old professional services firm, Grant Thornton Advisors LLC (Grant Thornton), historically operated as a traditional partnership-based firm. Following a growth investment led by New Mountain Capital, Grant Thornton began building a more scalable operating foundation to support ambitious value-creation goals, including stronger finance capabilities and clearer performance insights.
At the same time, Grant Thornton launched a multinational M&A transaction program, introducing complex integration challenges across diverse operating models. The firm engaged Portage Point to accelerate finance function maturity, strengthen integration readiness and help lead coordinated acquisition execution through a centralized integration model deployable across multiple jurisdictions.
PORTAGE POINT APPROACH
- Accelerated finance function maturity by serving as interim CFO throughout the ownership transition, strengthening financial reporting, instilling rigor across addbacks and adjustments and upgrading toolsets to improve cash visibility and financial reporting
- Enhanced leadership insight and decision-making by standardizing data definitions and implementing executive-level BI reporting, including infrastructure to support external and lender-ready reporting
- Led global acquisition integration execution, establishing and overseeing a Finance and Accounting Integration Management Office to define integration strategy, align workplans and ensure accountability across acquisitions and geographies
- Implemented a centralized control model supported by country-level execution teams to coordinate day-to-day integration activities, manage cross-team dependencies and mitigate execution risk
POSITIVE IMPACT
Portage Point established a scalable finance and integration infrastructure to support a complex, multinational acquisition program spanning more than 15 countries. The firm now operates with consistent financial reporting, standardized performance metrics and improved cash visibility, with monthly consolidation and lender-ready reporting established across the platform. A centralized integration model enables coordinated execution across a rapidly expanding acquisition base, positioning the business to sustain integration velocity and drive continued value creation.
